Next time I'm in the area, I'd like to come back and visit the planetarium.
Though it's small in scale, South Florida Science Center offers well-kept, interesting exhibits for a reasonable entry fee.
NOT FOR ADULTS! WASTE OF MONEY...my boyfriend and I walked into the West palm beach science center and aquarium today, and boy were we disappointed. We arrived maybe around 10:00 -10:30 am. We walked into the building and asked the employee may we please pay for 2 tickets, the first thing he told me was that a school field trip of 250 kids were inside so try to do my best and avoid them so we wouldn't end up surrounded by kids. We didn't think the kids would be an issues because to my knowledge the place was massive until we walked in, THERE WAS ONLY 3 ROOMS TO ROAM!!! that was it.... all 3 rooms were extremely small, nothing really tied to together, it felt like the exhibits were all over the place and so were the kids. All in all Its perfect if you have kids and you didn't want to commit an entire day to something. Took about 15 minutes for us to walk through read everything and leave.
I've been coming here since I was a little girl and it's the best it's ever been. My kids love it and we always have a great time.
Curiously, the big temporary exhibit on butterflies was a bit of a let-down—very much geared toward young children, with little designed to be accessible to their older siblings or passing adults. It was a great concept—a choose-your-own-adventure maze exploring butterfly life-cycles—with some interesting science facts, but could have been implemented much more effectively.
My husband and I, both self-professed nerds, visited on a Sunday afternoon in September. Sunday seems to be Bring Your Toddler Day, but on the whole the wee bairns were well-behaved and guided by attentive parents. The Planetarium was, unfortunately, closed for updates, but we really enjoyed the aquarium, where small tanks grant an up-close view of healthy marine and freshwater fish and crustaceans. The spherical projection system by NOAA depicting tectonic and climactic systems was a sit-down standout.
Smallish museum geared mostly towards children. If you're a Bank of America you can go for free first full weekend of every month. Otherwise $16.95 for adults. It only takes a couple hours to go through. They have a little planetarium but we didn't see a show. Planetarium show is 5 bucks. They also have mini golf. My wifey and went but my admission was free with my B of A card and ID but would have been disappointed if we both paid full price.
Overall, the South Florida Science Center is a great little spot. Keep it on your shortlist for rainy afternoons, especially if you've got junior science buffs along on your South Florida adventure.
The interactive discovery room, clearly the epicenter of a localized kid-nado, was full of interesting exhibits but a bit overcrowded, so we checked out a few of the displays and gave the rest a miss. The hurricane-force wind simulator seemed especially popular.
My wife took our 1.5 year old daughter here and she (my wife) said this was a great, fun place. ... Lots of cool photo ops too. Are the young kids saying "cool" anymore? I think they're saying "lit" ... Oh well, overall nice way to spend a morning or afternoon.
